The C5 Corvette:

Made from 1997 to 2004, the C5 Corvette was the 5th generation of Chevy’s greatest sport car brand. The C5 Corvette was made with a bulletproof V8 LS1 engine and was offered with automatic and manual transmissions. The C5 also comes with various other options that are both useful and enjoyable to the driver. Because most C5’s have been well maintained by older individuals you can find a very well-maintained powerful vehicle for 12-20k dollars, making it one of the best deals in terms of used cars on the market.

Features:

The C5 was seen as a high-end car upon its release and as such it came with many options and features that are still amazing to this day. These include: Heads up display, Targa top roof, popup headlights, mpg reader, built in error code display, remote key fob, extra driver door key capabilities, passive entry system, Bose speakers, cruise control, variable driving modes, power seats/mirrors, distance traveled since engine start, and many more. The built-in heads-up display shows a blue light that can display mph, oil pressure, coolant temperature, lap times, and g-meter. Furthermore, you can adjust the positioning and brightness of the display. The targa top is offered on the base coupe models of the Vette and it is attached by sockets, as well as 3 latches for ease of use. Pop up headlights is a classic, and the C5 is the last production vehicle with them installed. Certain features such as the mpg reader, built in error code display, and distance traveled since engine start are useful for the mechanical side, while others such as the power seats and mirrors, Bose speakers, and driving modes are more for usability as well as enjoyment. The Keys for this vehicle are on par if not above most modern vehicles, with remote locking, remote start, unlocking when within range, as well as turning the key once to unlock the door, twice to unlock the passenger, and 3 times to open the trunk. The C5 is also offered with exterior colors of Arctic White, Sebring Silver, Nassau Blue, Black, Light Carmine Red, Torch Red and Fairway Green Metallic.

Mechanics and engine stats:

While the C5 looks good, it also doesn’t slack on the engine and overall performance, the naturally aspirated LS1 V8 releases a rapid 350 horsepower with 356 lb ft of torque and a max speed of 175 mph. The car has a 0-60 of 4.7 seconds, possible because of its weight of 3245 lbs. Furthermore, the ¼ mile time is 13.2 seconds, making this a good all-rounder car. While V8’s especially in a sports car, usually get horrible gas mileage, the C5 gets a surprising 19 mpg in the city along with an astounding 30mpg on the freeway. This along with a fuel tank size of 19 gallons can definitely get the owner a good distance on road trips without needing a refill.

Aftermarket support:

With most of the C5 owners being diehard fans, the aftermarket support on these cars is astounding. Many of the parts, with the exception of the 97-00 ebcm (electric brake control module) are offered widespread at a lower price than many comparable parts for other brands. With the car being a chevy and using parts in a plethora of other corvette models, numerous parts are still in production. Many forums and reddit pages, as well as YouTube channels have been built specifically around this car meaning that almost any issue has a well-documented solution. One of the downsides of working with this car (which is also the main downside in general) is it sits a measly 4-5.3 inches off the ground, making maintenance on the underside of the car to be difficult.

The C5 Corvette is a great option, especially as a secondary car for enthusiasts. Through its high speeds and acceleration using the LS1 engine, along with its classic timeless looks it is a car that most would enjoy. This 2-seater is a great option and has a high level of aftermarket support for any required maintenance. Overall, I would recommend this car to those who are looking for a fast car with great aftermarket support and with a beautiful exterior.
